Cyberpunk T-Shirts: A Buyer's Guide to Graphic Tees

The graphic tee is the cheapest way into cyberpunk style and the fastest way to find out whether a brand is any good. It is also the garment most people buy carelessly, because at €30 to €40 it feels like a low-stakes decision, right up until the print cracks after four washes.

This is what actually separates a tee worth keeping from a tee you replace. Or skip straight to cyberpunk t-shirts.

Why the t-shirt is the highest-stakes cheap purchase

A tee sits directly against your skin, gets washed more than anything else you own, and carries the artwork at chest height where people actually look. Every weakness in a garment shows up here first and fastest.

It is also the piece that does the most styling work. A single strong graphic tee under a plain jacket is a complete cyberpunk outfit: no hoodie, no cargo trousers, no accessories required. Get this one garment right and the rest of your wardrobe can stay ordinary.

Fabric: the part you feel

Weight

T-shirt fabric is measured in GSM, like hoodie fleece, but the useful range is much lower.

  • Under 150 GSM. Thin. Drapes limply, goes semi-transparent, and shows every wrinkle. This is standard promotional-tee territory.
  • 160 to 190 GSM. The everyday range. Enough body to hang properly without being hot.
  • 200 GSM and up. Heavyweight. Holds a boxy shape on its own and feels substantial, but gets warm under a jacket.

For a graphic tee you will wear all year, the top of the everyday range is the sweet spot: enough body to hold a print flat, light enough to layer. Ours are 180 GSM.

Composition

100% cotton is what you want against skin, and organic cotton more so. Organic fibre is generally longer-staple, which means less pilling, better dye retention and, the part that matters most here, sharper print definition. Fine line work, small katakana, thin circuit traces: all of it survives better on a smooth, long-staple surface.

Avoid majority-polyester tees. They hold odour, feel plasticky when you sweat, and pill under bag straps within months. We go into what the organic certifications actually cover in our piece on GOTS and organic cotton streetwear.

The print: where most tees fail

Method

DTG sprays ink into the fibres. Soft to the touch, unlimited colour, and by far the best method for detailed artwork. This is what most good cyberpunk graphics are printed with, because the designs have too much fine detail for anything else.

Screen print lays ink on top. Extremely durable and saturated, but costly for multi-colour work and it can feel like a stiff panel across the chest.

Heat transfer is plastic film glued on. Cheap, and it cracks. If you can feel a hard edge around the graphic with a fingernail, that is what you have.

Placement

Front-only is the default and the cheapest. Back prints cost more and change the garment entirely. A back-print tee reads as designed rather than decorated, and it works under an open jacket where a chest graphic would be hidden. We group those separately as back-print t-shirts. How to read the graphics themselves is in katakana, circuits and glitch.

Fit: regular, slim, boxy or oversized

Regular follows the body with a normal shoulder seam. Safe, works under everything.

Slim sits closer through the chest and waist. It keeps the graphic flat and readable, and it layers cleanly under a jacket.

Boxy is wider through the body and shorter in length, a common streetwear choice.

Oversized drops the shoulder seam down the arm deliberately. It only works when the whole garment is cut for it. Sizing up in a regular tee gives you a long shirt with sagging shoulders, not an oversized one.

NEOMACHI unisex tees are a medium fit on the Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0: not slim, not oversized, true to size. Take your normal size, and size up one only if you want a boxier look. The rule that saves most returns: do not order by letter size. Measure a tee you already own and like, flat across the chest and from shoulder to hem, then compare to the chart. Ours are published per garment: t-shirt sizing, t-shirt garment info and sizing advice.

Men's, women's and unisex

Most cyberpunk tees are cut unisex, which works well for a lot of people and less well for others. A unisex tee can be wide and long on a narrower frame.

If the proportions do not work for you, we cut a separate range: women's cyberpunk t-shirts alongside the men's range.

How to test a brand with one tee

This is the cheapest quality control there is, and it works on any brand including ours.

  1. Buy one tee. Not three.
  2. Wear and wash it five times. Cold, inside out.
  3. Check three things: has the print cracked or faded? Has the black gone chalky? Has the body shrunk or twisted at the side seam?

Everything that will go wrong with a tee goes wrong by wash five. If it survives, the brand's hoodies are a safe bet too: same supply chain, same print process. If it does not, you are out the price of a tee instead of a hundred and fifty euros. More on separating real brands from storefronts in the best cyberpunk clothing brands.

Making a tee last

  • Wash inside out at 30°C. Protects the print and keeps black from fading.
  • No tumble dryer. Heat is what cracks prints and shrinks cotton.
  • Never iron the graphic. Iron around it or inside out on low.
  • Hang or fold, do not stretch. Hanging a tee by the shoulders for months distorts the neckline.

Frequently asked questions

What GSM should a good t-shirt be?

160 to 190 GSM for everyday wear, 200+ for a heavyweight boxy tee that holds its own shape. Below 150 is thin and will show it.

Should I size up in a cyberpunk t-shirt?

Only if you want more volume than the cut gives you. If a tee is already cut boxy or oversized, take your normal size. Sizing up on an oversized cut gives you a tent.

Are back-print t-shirts better?

Not better, different. A back print stays visible under an open jacket and reads as more designed; a front print is what people see head-on. Many people end up owning both.

How do I stop a t-shirt print from cracking?

Wash inside out at 30°C and skip the dryer. Almost all print cracking is heat damage rather than wear.

How do NEOMACHI t-shirts fit?

A medium unisex fit, true to size: not slim, not oversized. Take your normal size and size up one only for a boxier look. Check the flat chest measurement in the size guide rather than the letter.

Start with one

Every NEOMACHI tee is drawn by real artists rather than generated, printed in Europe, and made in organic cotton with published measurements. Buy three and the fourth is free. One tee is a complete outfit: see ten ways to wear it, or the whole range in cyberpunk clothing.
