Johnny Silverhand Outfit: How to Wear the Rockerboy Look Without the Cosplay

Aviators, a beat-up band tee, military trousers and one chrome detail. Here is how to wear Johnny Silverhand's rockerboy look in real life, piece by piece, without a wig or a licence problem.

HOSHASEI mecha samurai hoodie by NEOMACHI, the base for a Johnny Silverhand-inspired outfit

Of all the people in Night City, Johnny Silverhand is the one players most want to dress like. He is loud where V is practical, he has the best sunglasses in the game, and he looks like he has not changed clothes since 2023, which is exactly the point. The good news: a Johnny Silverhand outfit is one of the easiest cyberpunk looks to wear in real life, because almost all of it is ordinary rock-and-military clothing. Only one piece is chrome, and you can skip it.

Quick note first: NEOMACHI is an independent brand from Amsterdam. We are not affiliated with CD Projekt Red, and nothing here is official merchandise. This is a style guide built from original designs, not a replica kit.

Who Johnny is, in one paragraph

Johnny Silverhand is a rockerboy: in the Cyberpunk universe, a musician whose music is a weapon against the corporations. He fronted the band Samurai, lost his left arm and replaced it with the silver cybernetic one that gave him his name, and led the 2023 attack on Arasaka Tower. In Cyberpunk 2077 he comes back as a digital ghost living in V's head, played by Keanu Reeves. His clothes tell all of that story at once: stage gear, army surplus and a fight he never stopped having.

The five pieces that make the look

Strip Johnny's outfit down and it is five things. Get these right and nobody will need the arm to recognise the reference.

Piece In the game Real-world version
Sunglasses Gold-framed aviators, worn indoors, at night, always Any metal aviator with a thin frame. The single most important item.
Top A worn tank or tee, often with the band on it A dark graphic tee or hoodie with a bold, aggressive print
Jacket The band jacket fans hunt for most A bomber or a jacket with a big back print, worn open
Trousers Military-cut trousers Cargo or straight-leg trousers in black or olive
Details Dog tags, heavy boots, a cigarette he never puts out A chain or dog tags, combat boots, nothing else

Everything else, including the arm, is optional.

Look 1: the everyday Johnny

This is the version you can wear to work on a Friday. Black cargo trousers, black boots, aviators, and one hoodie with a print that looks like it belongs on a merch table at a show the police shut down. The HOSHASEI hoodie is our pick: a mecha samurai holding a radioactive sword, which is about as close to a Samurai-band shirt as an original design gets without borrowing anyone's logo. Add a thin chain and leave it there.

Look 2: the 2023 stage outfit

For a gig, a con or a night out, go full rockerboy. A graphic cyberpunk t-shirt as the base, a cyberpunk jacket over it with the sleeves pushed up, and the aviators staying on after dark. The 5AMUR41 jacket carries the Bushido code rewritten in ones and zeros, a samurai idea rebuilt for a city run by machines, which is pretty much Johnny's whole worldview. Under it, the ONGAKU tee: a band playing in a neon alley, the closest thing to a tour shirt in our catalogue.

This jacket runs slightly large, so stay true to size for the open, slouchy rock fit, or size down if you want it closer to the body.

Look 3: the Arasaka Tower assault

This is Johnny the soldier rather than Johnny the singer. Drop the colour, keep everything olive, black and steel. A heavy hoodie or parka, cargo trousers, boots you could actually walk through rubble in. The BLLTPRF parka has 防弾, the kanji for bulletproof, across the back, and it is the most practical way to wear the attitude through a European winter. If you prefer layers, the BLLTPRF hoodie under an army-green field jacket does the same job.

Look 4: the engram

In the game you mostly see Johnny as a glitching projection, half there and half static. Translate that into a cleaner, more digital outfit: black on black, one glowing graphic. The SAIBĀSUPĒSU tee is a collaboration with GuzikArt, a studio that makes shirts for bands that fill arenas, and its astronauts adrift in cyberspace fit a man who now lives inside a chip. Wear it under an open black overshirt with aviators clipped to the collar.

The silver arm: three ways to handle it

The arm is what turns an outfit into a costume, so decide how far you want to go:

  • Skip it. Aviators plus a samurai graphic already reads as Johnny to anyone who has played the game.
  • Hint at it. Metal on the left side only: a steel watch, a heavy ring, a chain bracelet. Subtle, and it works every day.
  • Commit to it. For a con or a Halloween party, a metallic sleeve or arm paint. Our cyberpunk Halloween costume ideas covers the costume side properly.

Johnny vs V: which one are you dressing as?

The two share a body for most of the game, but not a wardrobe. Johnny dresses like the 2020s never ended: rock, surplus, one aggressive print. V can be anything, which is why V's outfits map onto the four in-game style families we break down in Cyberpunk 2077 inspired clothing. In those terms Johnny is Kitsch on top (loud graphic, attitude) and Entropism underneath (cheap, tough, practical). If you want the game's anime cousin instead, see Cyberpunk Edgerunners outfits.

Why the samurai keeps coming back

It is not an accident that the most famous band in Night City is called Samurai. Cyberpunk has borrowed Japanese imagery since the 1980s, and the masterless warrior fighting a system bigger than him is the genre's favourite hero. We explain the history in why cyberpunk looks like Tokyo, and what the code itself actually says in the seven virtues of Bushido. It is also why samurai designs like RŌNIN and SAMURAITAIGĀ fit straight into a Johnny-style wardrobe.

Frequently asked questions

What does Johnny Silverhand wear?

Gold aviator sunglasses, a worn tank or band tee, military-style trousers, heavy boots, dog tags and a jacket, plus his chrome left arm. It is a mix of 2020s rock stage gear and army surplus.

How do I dress like Johnny Silverhand without cosplaying?

Keep the aviators, swap the band shirt for an original samurai or music graphic, wear black or olive cargo trousers and boots, and replace the arm with one metal detail on your left side.

What band was Johnny Silverhand in?

Samurai, the rock band he fronted before the 2023 attack on Arasaka Tower. In the game you can hear their songs on the radio and play gigs with what is left of the band.

Is this official Cyberpunk 2077 merchandise?

No. NEOMACHI is not affiliated with CD Projekt Red. Our designs are original artwork inspired by the wider cyberpunk aesthetic. For the official Samurai logo, buy from the studio's own store.
